Denmark as an innovation engine for next-generation biofuels in Europe
Since 1 January 2012 Denmark has taken for half a year the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, one of the four Danish priorities is to promote a greener Europe. Denmark would especially like to use his term that the use of renewable energy in the EU and about the year 2020 is being pushed. In the renewable energy sector,Denmark is one of the world's innovation leader today. In addition to the flagship Novozymes I want to introduce a selection of the most promising companies and concepts from Denmark shortly. At this year's visit to the World Biofuels Markets in Rotterdam I was frankly a little surprised at how often striking Danish companies were represented with the most innovative approaches to the production of biofuels nextgen. Especially in the development of technologies and methods for pretreatment and processing of biomass for the production of cellulosic ethanol can already speak of a predominance of the Danes.
The interesting blog article " energy revolution in Danish - where facts are facts already "by Cornelia Daniel shows that Denmark takes the energy change very seriously and already going for a 100 percent transition by 2050.
Let us now directly at the innovative companies for the production of next generation biofuels go to Denmark.
The future of cellulosic ethanol comes from Denmark
In the following list I will focus on the idea that concepts and Danish companies often set the tone in their segment of biofuels production.
Novozymes - Enzymes for competitive cellulosic ethanol
Of course, the list must Novozymes start, which is one of the world's most dazzling examples of the development of biofuels.Novozymes can be mentioned in one breath with Amyris,Solazyme POET or without problems.
With 5, 000 employees and annual sales of 2 billion euros,Novozymes has specialized in the production of enzymes in the biofuel area for the digestion of biomass. The stated aim is the production of cellulosic ethanol, which is competitive with corn ethanol.
Only in recent weeks Novozymes has announced that with Cellic CTec3 an enzyme could be developed, which pollutes the production of cellulosic ethanol only with costs between 10-25 cents per liter. This is achieved by an enzyme which is more efficient by a factor of 5,than similar products on the market.Instead of 250 kg per ton of cellulosic ethanol enzyme are used in the latest version Novozymes only 50 kg per ton of need.
Ways to cellulosic ethanol are becoming more efficient and cost-effective
As a result of these reductions, the bioethanol produced with the use of Celltic CTec3 a market price that can compete with bioethanol from corn. And since the market price is currently still the decisive criterion for market access in this market, the interest in this next generation biofuel is likely to be correspondingly large.
The statement of the company spokesperson Poul Ruben Andersen sees Novozymes result in the provision of Upscale evidence for various cellulosic ethanol technology is still currently the biggest challenge. This evidence is essential to gain the necessary and significant investment to build an industry.

I detailed the thesis that the ironic outcome of the EPS's efforts to create a biofuels industry was likely going to drive "Big Oil" to buy up the independent biofuels companies in order to minimize the impact of the RFS2 regulations.
