On Tuesday, October 8th we had the pleasure to be the event photographer of the first annual Flannel Fest, hosted by TownePlace Suites by Marriott Springfield and O’Reilly Hospitality Management, LLC. The fantastic decorations and games immediately blew us away. I have to give credit to our very own Lumber Jill and her team for a wonderful job they did putting it all together.
From the moment we walked into Flannel Fest we were greeted with the roars of Jason Morton‘s chainsaw from Eagle Ridge Chainsaw Carving. He continuously kept us guessing as we photographed his journey. He transformed a 5-foot log into a beautiful piece of art. Was it a bear? Groot? To our pleasant surprise, he was able to shape the log into an amazing bald eagle!
We laughed as the kids played in the Kid Zone. We were able to catch with our camera some adults being a big kid too. From Giant Jenga games to Cornhole to a bounce house donated by Chad Burkholder of Jumping Jacks, where my very own child spent most of her time. Followed by an ax-throwing event being hosted by TommyHawks Axe House where you could try your hand at throwing tomahawks at a wooden target. We had so much fun capturing the action photos of the brave men and women willing to step up to the plate. Thankfully under the guidance of Kacey Jennings and Issac Roesler with their custom cage trailer by H2H Fabrications, everyone was kept safe.
As the sun was setting we were delighted to photograph the Beard contest hosted by the Queen City Beard & Moustache Federation emceed by our very own Lumber Jill and Jeremy Snow. Premiering first was their Cutest Lil’ Lumberjack contest which provided two of the most inspirational little lumberjacks I’ve ever seen. Followed by a multi-category contest from Mustaches to Ginger Small Beards to Long Beards. Ultimately leading to our three winner trophies donated by Rogue Barber Co., Chad Burkholder for the Long Beard, Dan McColm for the Mustache and Erik Kane for the Ginger Small Beard.
While we laughed and played through the events enjoying all the delicious food and drinks, we were blessed with the soulful sounds of Shaun Munday. It was awe-inspiring to get some photos of him in action. From his rocking out to his melodic riffing it dramatically increased the feeling of joy throughout the event.
Closing the night away, we were able to capture some of the exciting moments of the raffle. Raffled items were donations from local businesses. Such as Acacia Spa for their lovely gift basket, Hilton Garden Inn sweet gift certificates, DoubleTree by Hilton for wonderful nights stay at their hotel, Ozark Mountain Popcorn generous donation, Macadoodles amazing samples of their beer, and The Springfield Cardinals for all the swag. Thank you, everyone, for your generous donations, it made a lot of peoples night.
All the fun, games, and raffle were to bring awareness and benefit the Mercy Health Foundation. A great cause founded by Catherine McAuley to assist children in need. All the proceeds went to help fund their campaign to build a Mercy Kids Children’s Hospital in Branson, MO. Built with state-of-the-art pediatric equipment to help thousands of patients and their families. If you feel lead to help more please visit their site and support this fantastic foundation.
We love photographing these events. It give us a chance to meet with local people and buisness like us. Yet knowing that we are supporting a great cause in the process makes it that much more enjoyable.
